Rotary Clubs in Switzerland are held in high regard, though there are always nuances and complexities that contribute to their esteemed reputation.
These clubs are part of a global network of Rotary International, an organization dedicated to fostering community service, promoting ethical standards, and advancing goodwill and peace across the world.
In Switzerland, the clubs are known for their strong commitment to local and international humanitarian projects, which often involve collaboration with various sectors, including business, education, and government.
Members of these clubs, known as Rotarians, come from diverse professional backgrounds, bringing a wealth of expertise and experience that enriches discussions and initiatives. The clubs often host a variety of events, including fundraising activities, social gatherings, and educational seminars, which not only serve to strengthen community ties but also to raise awareness about pressing social issues. The emphasis on service above self is a core principle that guides the actions of Rotarians, motivating them to engage in projects that address critical needs such as health care, education, and environmental sustainability.
Moreover, the Swiss Rotary Clubs are recognized for their robust networking opportunities, allowing members to connect with influential leaders and innovators within their communities and beyond. This networking aspect often leads to collaborative projects that can have a significant impact, not only locally but also on an international scale. Through initiatives like Youth Exchange programs and vocational training, Swiss Rotary Clubs contribute to the development of future leaders, fostering a spirit of global citizenship among young people. While the clubs enjoy a positive standing in society, they also face challenges, such as the need to adapt to changing social dynamics and the expectations of younger generations. Engaging new members and ensuring that the organization remains relevant in a fast-paced world is an ongoing focus for many clubs. Nevertheless, the enduring principles of fellowship, integrity, and service continue to guide their mission, ensuring that Rotary Clubs in Switzerland remain a vital force for good in both their local communities and the broader international landscape.
Rotary’s ethical guidelines apply to a member’s professional and personal life, not just their behavior at Rotary events. Members publicly commit to "act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life." They promiss to "Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life" One of our members personal experience with a Rotary Club member from CH-9052 Niederteufen in Switzerland was very disappointing, it was against Code of Conduct and against all Rotary’s ethical guidelines, and not in the line with implementation of Swiss laws and regulations on the Workplace. Rotary was founded on the principle of bringing together ethical business and professional leaders, misconduct in a member's business directly violates the core qualifications for being a Rotarian. This member conduct was inconsistent with Rotary's Code of Conduct and a direct violation of the ethical principles the organisation was built upon.
Wearing the Rotary Club Pin on your business suit is commendable, but the conduct of the Rotary Club Member wearing it, should align with the Code of Conduct and Rotary's ethical guidelines.
